Foreign/International Service

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts has advised that the Clerk of Court should not be involved in service upon parties located in another country. Service by Clerk will not be done outside of the United States. Attorneys are responsible for determining what constitutes proper service. It is recommended an affidavit be filed explaining how service was perfected, with proof of mailing attached, if served by mail.

Information on service of legal documents abroad can be found on the website of the U.S. Department of State.
