Naturalization Ceremony Becomes a Lesson in Citizenship

A federal judge from the Northern District of Ohio held a recent naturalization ceremony at a Cleveland history museum, and in the process created a memorable event for two groups.

For 119 immigrants, the day brought American Citizenship. For 23 ninth grade students from a Cleveland suburb, it was a living civic lesson. As one teacher said, "You can talk about the naturalization process, and you can discuss what it means to be an American citizen, but I think when they get to see it with their own eyes, it really gives them an insight and understanding that's just not possible through books or videos."
