Become a Member of the Northern District of Ohio’s Civil Pro Bono Panel

Friday, May 25, 2018

The Court is in need of attorneys admitted to practice in the Northern District of Ohio who are willing to serve as pro bono counsel in civil lawsuits brought by indigent plaintiffs. These lawsuits seek relief regarding a wide variety of matters, from prisoners’ claims about unconstitutional treatment by corrections authorities to individuals claiming discrimination in employment or housing.

In an appropriate case, the Court may grant an indigent party’s motion for the appointment of volunteer pro bono counsel. When that occurs, the appointment will be made from among those lawyers who have actively expressed an interest in providing pro bono representation in this Court. The Court will reimburse assigned counsel, pursuant to the Pro Bono Civil Case Protocol, for certain expenses incurred in providing representation up to $1,500.

The Court welcomes attorneys from all areas of legal practice to apply. The Application for Attorney Volunteers can be found on the Court’s website here.  If you have any additional questions, please visit our website or contact a member of our Pro Bono Department at 216-357-7077.
