Effective January 1, 2023, The Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts has set the schedule of fees for freelance interpreter as follows:
FEDERALLY CERTIFIED INTERPRETERS:

Overtime | $80.00 per hour or part thereof |
PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED INTERPRETERS:
Full Day | $495.00 |
Half Day | $280.00 |
Overtime | $70.00 per hour or part thereof |
LANGUAGE SKILLED (NON-CERTIFIED) INTERPRETERS:
Full Day | $350.00 |
Half Day | $190.00 |
Overtime | $44.00 per hour or part thereof |
PER DIEM/SUBSISTENCE RATES
Per Diem will be paid only when an overnight stay is required due to the Court’s distance from your residence and must be authorized by the Court or representative of the Clerk’s Office. Contact the Clerk’s Office for current per diem rates and information.
BILLING INFORMATION
Interpreters are paid by the half-day or full-day regardless of the number of events or the number of different court units to which the interpreter may be assigned during that period. The total amount accrued for an 8 hour day cannot exceed the full-day rate unless overtime has been approved. Interpreters are prohibited from charging different court units for any half day or full day for which he or she is already receiving payment from another court unit regardless of the location or district of each court unit. Interpreters must have a completed W9 on file before invoices will be processed.
Overtime payments are payable only for time worked in excess of eight hours in one day, and overtime payments are not applicable to travel time.
MILEAGE RATE
Mileage Rate $0.58 per mile
As of May 1, 2005, mileage and parking fees are payable only for interpreters commuting more than 30 miles one way from the contract interpreter’s residence to the court location.
