Annual Federal Criminal Practice Seminar Will Be Held on August 26, 2022

The Federal Criminal Practice Seminar is scheduled for Friday, August 26, 2022, and is presented by the Federal Public Defender Office, in association with the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and with the assistance of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. This year, you have the option to attend in person, or by Zoom webinar.  We are pleased to bring you an exciting and diverse line-up, with Professor Jonathan Witmer-Rich presenting the Supreme Court Update; Federal Defender Juval Scott’s thought provoking presentation Effective Ways to Advocate for Your Client; Sumter Camp, everyone’s favorite Retired Assistant Federal Defender, bringing us his lively interpretation of the Sixth Circuit Update; Assistant Federal Defender Alicia Penn and Envista Forensics Practice Leader Lars Daniel, bring their presentation on cell phone forensics for legal professionals; to be followed by a panel presentation on tip and tricks for preparing meaningful sentencing memos, presented by Assistant Federal Defender Jeff Lazarus, CJA Panel Members, Rasheeda Khan and Marisa Serrat, and Federal Defender Office Research and Writing Specialist Cathi Shusky. This program has been approved by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio to satisfy the requirements of Local Rule 57.5(o) and the Criminal Justice Act Plan for CLE training in federal criminal law and procedure.  Application will be made to the Ohio Supreme Court CLE Commission for 6.5 hours of general CLE. The program is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., with an hour and fifteen-minute break for lunch. 

The cost to attend in person is $50.00, by Zoom webinar is $75.00, and all current CJA Panel members may attend either format for the reduced fee of $25.00. The in-person event will be held at the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, 1375 E. 9th Street, 2nd Floor, Cleveland, OH 44114.

Handout materials, and a course evaluation will be sent by e-mail after the program.  CLE credit from the Ohio Supreme Court will be awarded after the program, once your attendance has been verified.
